Our first stop, for “morning tea” was at West Head, which is also known as Commodore Heights. It was very windy but just awe-inspiring in the beauty. The pics we’ve got don’t do it justice. The point with a lighthouse is called Barrenjoey, which means “baby wallaby”. Apparently the offspring of all marsupials (in Australia, at least) are called “joeys”.
Although a very wealthy suburb of Sydney now, this was originally a very isolated location that was popular with smugglers since it was fairly removed from civilization and had good locations to go ashore. Barry pointed out that if you sailed due east from this point of land, the next landfall you’d hit is South America.
