This is really a weird day. We came back to the hotel early because the heat was just blistering. I’ve heard different numbers, but best I can tell it actually hit 115 degrees F yesterday. We had long since retired to the hotel to sit as close to the AC vents as humanly possible – it was true that only mad dogs and Englishmen were out in the heat; everyone else was inside and doing as little as possible.
Anyhow, we’d pretty well resigned ourselves to even eating dinner in the hotel (just so we didn’t have to go back out) when all the sudden WHOOSH!!! The wind came screeching through, turned over the furniture on all the balconies and whipped these enormous trees back and forth. All the sudden there was a really brief (like 3 or 4 minute) downpour, and then the temperature dropped at least 20 degrees in about 20 minutes. It was very strange.
Have you ever heard the saying that Melbourne is a city that can have all 4 seasons in one day? Well....we experienced at least 2 (maybe 3) seasons today. Mother nature never ceases to amaze me.
