Federation Square Melbourne

This short video (sorry, trollys kept running in front of me after the first few seconds) shows the beauty of Federation Square. You come out of the building on the corner from the trains, which are back behind the long part of the building.

The interesting thing about this, though, is the noise you hear in the background – at first, it’s a clicking, about like a metronome doing 45 beats per minute. Then all the sudden it goes off VERY fast, like a little wind up toy that's just been released. This is the audio signal for crossing the street. You only get enough “walk” light to make it about 1/3 to ½ way across, though.

The funny thing is to watch people at the crosswalks. Little old ladies with canes and walkers shoot across the street like a racehorse at the Kentucky Derby when the light changes. NASCAR has nothing on their reaction time.

Once they’ve crossed, they’re back to their normal speed down the sidewalk.

Incidentally, word is out – the official high temperature on Saturday converted to 113.18F. This morning (Monday), it’s just shy of 61F out there. Someone mentioned that you could have all four seasons in a single day here, and now I think we’re seeing it.
